Mother locked the main gate, child died while burning the clay doll

Father left for work and mother locked the main gate of the house and went out.At that time, in the locked house, Riya and her brother lit the gaslight and were playing in the yard. At one stage of the game, Riya was burning clay doll and her clothes caught fire. The child died undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital early morning on Thursday.

Neighbors also could not enter the house as the main gate of the house was locked.Riya’s body was completely burnt in the fire.Later, after being admitted to the hospital, Riya died while undergoing treatment.

On Wednesday afternoon, such a tragic accident took place in Pabna’s Ishwardi.Riya died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at around 12.15am on Thursday.

The deceased Riya Khatun,12, was class two student of DyarSahapur Government Primary School and daughter of Pintu Biswas of ManiknagarPathshala Mor under Salimpurunion of the upazila.

Riya Khatun’s cousin Saurabh Hossain confirmed the death. He said that Riya Khatun’s father Pintu Biswas worked at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.He went there to do duty.His wife locked the main gate of the house and went out.At that time Riya and her 5-year-old brother were playing in the yard with the gaslight on.At one stage of the game, Riya was burning clay dolls and her clothes caught fire.

Only Riya and her younger brother were in the house when the fire broke out.Neighbors also could not enter the house as the main gate of the house was locked.Riya’s body was completely burnt in the fire.

She was quickly taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex and after initial treatment, she was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.Riya died while undergoing treatment there at around 12.15am on Thursday.

Doctor Sabrina Rahman of Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex said that most of the child’s body, including his face, was burnt in the fire.When she was rescued and brought to the health complex, her condition was criticalLater, when she was taken to RMCH, she died under treatment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station Rafiqul Islam said that the fire is being investigated.
