Two children were drowned in a pond at Ulipur upazila in Kurigra district at around 5pm on Wednesday (May 15).

The deceased were identified as Lipon 06 son of Rashed Miah and his cousin Mehedi Hashan 08 son of Maidul Islam of village Sarkarpara under Begumganj union of the upazila. Local union parishad member Shafikul Islam informed the matter.

Shafikul Islam said they were the students of local Nurun Nahar Government Primary school. At the end of class in their school Lipon went to a pond near their houses to take a bath and at one stage he was drowned.

Observing the scene, his cousin Mehedi went to rescue him but unfortunately he was also drowned there. Later hearing the news locals rushed to the spot and rescued the bodies. A pathetic shock was prevailing there following the incident.

Officer-in-charge of Ulipur police station Golam Mortuza confirmed the incident.
