The three departments’ students, including Development Studies, Folklore Studies, and Fine Arts, staged a sit-in demanding permanent classrooms in front of the administrative building at Islamic University in Kushtia on Sunday. Students met with IU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, and raised various demands.
According to sources, the Fine Arts department was allocated some rooms by the then former VC Prof. Dr. Sheikh Abdus Salam at the third floor of Rabindra-Nazrul Kola Bhaban. During his time, Development Studies and later Folklore Studies departments took over those rooms. As a result, the students of three departments protested, demanding permanent classrooms.
In this context, IU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah said, “The Dean of the Faculty of Arts had responsibility to allocate the classrooms of Rabindra-Nazrul Kola Bhaban, but at present he is not on campus. We will discuss with him about the current issues in a logical way.”
