Police have arrested a madrasa teacher for allegedly raping a nine-year-old student in Bagmara of Rajshahi. The teacher was sent to jail through the court on Friday morning. Police arrested the teacher named Shakil Ahmed (20) on Thursday night.

Officer-in-charge of Bagmara Police Station Mostaq Ahmed said a Hafezia Madrasa in Basupara Union of the upazila has been conducting Qur’an teaching activities for a long time. Children and students from the neighborhood lived there. The authorities of the madrasa arranged accommodation there. For this, two teachers were appointed.

The OC also said that last Wednesday, teacher Shakil called a student of the madrasa to his room. He was on duty at the time. Shakil later raped the student in his room. He also threatened the student not to tell anyone about the incident. The raped student tricked the madrasa into leaving the house. He later went home and told the parents about the incident and told them that he would not go to the madrasa again.

The OC said that after learning about the matter through the family of the student, the police of Bagmara police station investigated the matter and talked to the child victim. Police raided the madrassa on Thursday night after the child described the rape.

Police arrested the accused teacher Shakil from the madrasa at that time. At night, the child’s father filed a case with the police. He was arrested in the case and sent to jail through the court on Friday morning. The child was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

OC Mostaq Ahmed said the arrested teacher had confessed to his crime during police interrogation. He told the police that he was sorry for the incident.
