Bengali film legend Suchitra Sen’s 92nd birthday was celebrated in Pabna with tributes, discussions and colorful cultural programs on Thursday.
In the morning, organised by the district administration, the day’s programme began with floral tributes to the heroine’s sculpture at Suchitra Sen’s ancestral home on Hemsagar Lane in the town.
A meeting was held later which deputy commissioner Biswas Russel Hossain presided over the meeting.
Among others, Superintendent of Police Akbar Ali Munsi, district Awami League president Mohammad Rezaul Rahim Lal, cultural activist Dr.Ramdulal Bhowmik and eminent people spoke at the meeting.
Suchitra Sen’s daughter Munmun Sen gave a virtual speech expressing gratitude for remembering Suchitra Sen.
Speakers said that Suchitra Sen’s house in Pabna was vacated on July 16, 2014 on the orders of the court after a long movement by cultural activists. Locals have demanded that a full-fledged film institute and a modern museum be built in the house, but the process is stuck in bureaucratic complications. They wanted the government to intervene quickly in this regard.
At the end of the discussion, local artistes performed songs and dances from Suchitra Sen’s films in a cultural program.
It is to be noted that legendary heroine Suchitra Sen was born on April 6, 1931 at Hemsagar Lane in the district headquartes.
She spent his childhood here. In 1947, before the partition of the country, they moved to India with their family.
