A Pabna court on Saturday sent one person to jail in a case filed over the deaths of two construction workers after they fell from an under-construction building of Pabna University of Science and Technology on Friday.
Pabna sadar police station officer-in-charge Kripa Sindhu Bala said that police arrested one person in the case around 11:00pm Friday. A relative of a victim filed the case the police station in connection with the incident on Saturday, the OC said.
The accused are – project director GM Azizur Rahman and Harunur Rashid, manager Nazirul Haque, contractor manager Mizanur Rahman, site engineer Sujadullah and Md Hossain.
‘It has been accepted as a case after filing a complaint of oversight and negligence on behalf of the deceased’s family,’ said Kripa Sindhu. The law enforcers arrested Md Hossain, and efforts are underway to nab other five accused, the police officer added.
Two workers killed and another sustained serious injuries Friday morning after they fell off from an under-construction building on PUST campus.
Witnesses said that workers were plastering the outside wall of under-construction 12-storey Sheikh Russel Hall of PUST. Suddenly the three dropped to the ground from the eighth floor of the building when a rope they used to hold them to a bamboo pole severed around 8:30am, leaving them critically injured.
According to the locals, due to the negligence of the contracting organisation, at least 15 workers, including the last two, were killed at PUST during the construction.
