A police constable Sirajul Islam on Saturday noon has been suspended and closed in the police line in connection with a trivial incident in which a youth was seriously injured by fracturing his head with an iron rod at Chatmohar in Pabna.

Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police MasudAlam confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday noon. Earlier on Saturday morning, the incident took place at Sabed Pramanik’s house in Chowdhury Para of MahidColoni in Chatmoharmunicipal area.

The injured youth Maqbul Hossain Pramanik (35) son of late ShafiuddinPramanik of Tolatlipara village under Haripur union of the upazila.

Accused Sirajul Islam is a constable of Chatmohar police station and the bodyguard of the OC of the police station. He lives in the house of Maqbul’s brother Sabed.

It is known that the work of Sabed Pramanik’s house is going on for a few days. Since Sabed is abroad, younger brother Maqbul Hossain is taking care of these works.

Maqbul asked to keep the motorcycle of the police constable from in front of the gate on Saturday to facilitate the painting of the house on the occasion of Eid.At one stage of argument, Sirajul got angry and hit on the head with an iron rod of Moqbul. When Maqbul fell on the ground, Sirajul started beating Maqbul.

Constable Sirajul stopped the people from the neighbors’ when they came forward and tried to rescue Maqbul and send him to the hospital. After calling 999, Sirajul got stuck. Later the injured Maqbul was admitted to Pabna General Hospital.

Despite contacting the accused police constable Sirajul Islam and Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jalal Uddin several times on the phone, it was not possible to get the statement.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance Administration) MasudAlam said, “Immediately after the incident, the accused police constable Sirajul Islam was temporarily suspended and closed in the police line. The investigation is on, necessary departmental action will be taken against him.
