Students of medical assistant training school-mats on Wednesday staged a humanchain to protest and revise the internship and inconsistent course curriculum with 4-point demands. Students across the country are holding indefinite class boycotts and student strikes on the same demand.
MATs protestors along with Bangladesh Diploma Medical Association and Bangladesh Diploma Medical Student Association observed this humanchainin front of Pabna Press Club for two hours.
The 4-point demands are-immediately maintaining the internship and revising the course curriculum, canceling the Allied Health Board and immediately forming an independent board called ‘Medical Education Board of Bangladesh’, creating employment and immediate recruitment and providing higher education opportunities as per Bangabandhu’s five-year plan.
The students said that in February of this year, Bangladesh State Medical Faculty authorities provided the new curriculum for MATs. In this, Mats cancels various important matters including internship of students which will deprive us to develop as efficient medical assistants in our national life.
We are doing this movement in protest of these and our four-point demand. We have to arrange recruitment and new employment in government jobs in all diploma level.
They also said that our class boycott and student strike is going on since March 14 as part of our movement. 14 government medical assistant training schools in the country are under lock down. The movement will continue until our demands are met. A more stringent programme will be given if necessary.
Pabna district president of BDMA Matiur Rahman, professional Sarwar Hossain Sohag, Helal Uddin Sajeeb, Jannatul Ferdous, Abdus Samad Noman and Masum Iqbal and many others spoke in the programme.
