The muffled in a red file of Bogura airport projects is going to afoot for rendering commercially flight. The airport can be operational mood in a limited scale for the commercial use if the government can allocate some projects of making runways, infrastructure and other facilities within a year.
The resume of the Airport under Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) can easily play an important role in socio-economic condition of the people of northern region of Bangladesh and can play crucial role in making the communication of the people smooth and easy in a very short time.
The chief of Air Force of Bangladesh Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan remarked before the Journalists of Bogura as the chief guest while he was visiting the airport to look into the possibility of commercial use of the Bogura Airport.
He was delivering his speech through a sudden visit to the Bogura Airport on January 11, 2025 at Arulia area beside Bogura-Noagaon inter-district road in Bogura sadar upazila in Bogura to inspect the runway of the airbase so that the airport would be started non-government basis for the movement of the civil people.
He added that a board would be formed in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to propose the matter to the interim government though Bogura airport was of significant importance and had been proposed to the previous government multiple times, but it had not been a priority for the regime.
“Completing the necessary expansions, including the runway, will take at least a year. Otherwise, the project will have to wait for the next elected government and a minimum 6,000-foot runway is required to operationalize Bogura airport, while the current length is only 4,700 feet”, he also added.
He further added that if operational, the important airport would significantly enhance the economic activity in the northern region and Present CAAB Chairman Air vice Marshal Mohammad Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan, the Bogura Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroza and Superintendent of Police Zedan Al-Musa, among others was present.
Earlier, the authorities first took the initiative to establish Bogura Airport in 1987. However, due to various complications, the project was not completed. During the 1991–96 tenure of the BNP government, a policy decision to establish the airport was made, approving a project worth Tk. 22 crore. In 1995, the government acquired 109.81 acres of land in Erulia, Bogura Sadar upazila near the Bogura-Naogaon road. Later it was being politically neglected in several times due to the location of the airport in Bogura district.
