Thousands of people of municipality area have become fed up with pain of mosquitoes in Bogura. The pest of mosquitoes has increased in the municipality area. The fasting people including school going students are facing more problems. The price of smokeless coils and aerosol mosquito repellent sprays has also gone up a lot.
Meanwhile, the authority claims that the mosquito killing program will start soon. In order to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes, apart from the drains of the municipality, the bushes and forests of each ward, near the house, mosquito control activities will be conducted from next Sunday. He also expressed hope that this will reduce the nuisance of mosquitoes.
The students have been hanging curtain (mosquito nets) and studying inside them and elderly people are offering Ramadan prayers. On the other hand, everyone is afraid of dengue from past experience. In this situation, there is still no effective action against the municipality.
Locals said that every year from the end of the winter season, the infestation of mosquitos’ increases in both the city and the village. As a result, mosquitoes have increased in Bogura in the last two weeks. They believe that mosquito breeding is increasing due to not being able to prevent mosquito breeding.
Nasima Khanom, a housewife of Hazirmill area, fed up with the torture of mosquitoes. The younger daughter is in primary school. Both of them studied in the mosquito net since afternoon. Yesterday Tuesday she bought another mosquito net for her husband.
Another inhabitant of Palsha area Shamsun Nahar said, everyone knows about the increase in mosquito infestation towards the end of the winter season. However, the municipality does not take any measures in this regard.
Shamima said, “I don’t know where the mosquitoes come from after noon and are swarming around the house.” “If the mosquito coil is not lit, it becomes a liability to stay inside and outside. There is no way to light the mosquito coil; there are asthma patients in the house.” she added.
Lokman Hossain of Sutrapur area of the city said that it is beyond the ability of everyone to buy coil and aerosol due to its high price. He also said that even though huge buildings are rising from one end of the city to the other, the residents of the city do not have any civic facilities. At least once a month the municipality should carry out mosquito control measures in the entire city. No such activities have been seen there in the last month.
Rezaul Karim Badsha, Mayor of Bogura Municipality, said in this regard, 150 liters of mosquito repellent is sprinkled twice a year in this municipality with an area of about 70 square kilometers. At present there are 24 fogger machines for spraying these medicines in 21 wards.
