A 60-year-old man has been killed in a head-on collision with Islamic University double-decker bus and bicycle in the place of Jail-khana Mor in Kushtia Sadar area.
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday when the man Jahidul Islam, a resident of Housing Area Block—was cycling, and the collision completely crushed between the bus and his bicycle.
According to police and eyewitnesses, Jahidul was cycling from the Housing area toward PTI Road when the speeding bus, carrying students of Islamic University, hit him head-on at Jail-khana Mor. The collision completely crushed his bicycle, and he succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Later, locals managed to stop the bus, but the driver fled immediately after the accident. Police recovered the victim’s body and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital for an autopsy.
Shihab Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, said, “The bus has been taken into police custody. If the victim’s family files a formal complaint, appropriate legal action will be taken.”
