The 8 accused killers of a brutal killing of a renowned union parishad chairman and Awami League leader were arrested by Sirajgonj district police with the recovery of 3 arms, 11 ammunitions and 2 sharp knives and a sound grenade from their possession.

A press briefing was arranged by Sirajgonj district police at the Conference room of Police Super Office where Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rajshahi Range Police Md. Abdul Baten bpm, ppm was present as the chief guest. The Press briefing was presided over by Police Super of Sirajgonj Arifur Rahman bpm (bar), pmm (bar).

Case statement said that on 18 Feb 2023 evening, an unidentified and masked gang of 14/15 team circled the chairman and awami league leader and killed him before a huge number of people and left the place of occurrence giving slogan of outlawed party.

The deceased was identified Abdul Kuddus Sarkar and Awami league former president of Deshigram union under Tarash upazila in Sirajgonj district.

Following his brutal killing, his relative lodged a murder case with Tarash police station on February 20, 2023. With the strict supervision of the DIG Rajshahi range police and Police Super Sirajgonj and his team conducted a hectic trial and traced out the killers and recovered the arms and ammunitions from their possession on early April 15 instant.

The arrested are identified as Jahurul Islam Tushar, 25, Biswanath Mohanto, 23, Shahidul Islam, 40, Boloram Chandra Das, 38, Uttam Chandra Das, 40, Rahmat Ali, 45, Rahomat Ali, 48, Shelter giver Shunil Urao, 45 from the same area.

Police also recovered 1 SMG, 1 Three-not-three Rifle, 1 Three-not-three Kata Rifle, 11 round bullets with a cover of bullet, 2 sharp knives, 1 sound grenade and a van.

Arifur Rahman bpm (bar), ppm (bar), Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sirajgonj said that acting on a tip-off, an expert team of district police rushed the place and arrested the accused killers with their shelter giver on early Saturday.

The primary interrogation on the arrested killers was done and the arrested terrorists confessed their killing with the leadership of Jahurul and they later produced before the court on Sunday and the court sent them to jail after hearing, added the SP of Sirajgonj.
