Jubo League activist hacked to death in Pabna

A Jubo League activist was hacked to death of Santhia upazila in Pabna on Wednesday. The incident took place near Chandripur railway station under Kashinathpur union of the upazilaat around 12.30pm.

The deceased was Sheikh Shahanur Rahman,32, son of Abu Bakkar Sheikh of Birahimpur Bazar area of Aminpurpolice station under SujanagarUpazila in Pabna.

Sujanagar municipal Awami League president Ferdous Alam Feroz has confirmed that he was a Jubo League activist of Ward No. 5 of Ahmedpur Union in the upazila.

According to local sources, Jubo League activist Sheikh Shahanur Rahman was hacked to death due to an argument over a woman. However, he was called from home due to a political dispute by his relatives and was hacked to death by the opponents.

Police and eyewitnesses said that there was an altercation with a girl at the scene of Chandripur railway station. When some people came forward, Shahanur argued with them. At one stage, Shahanur was hacked and seriously injured. When he was rescued and taken to Santhia Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

However, the relatives of the deceased claim that there has been an internal conflict between Jubo League in the area for a long time. Due to that dispute, he was called in the morning and killed according to a pre-planned plan.

Sardar Raju Ahmed, president of SujanagarUpazila Jubo League, said, “I have come to know that I cannot say who killed him, but due to political dispute, a group of 14-15 people called him to that area and locked him inside the house and beat him up.” He was rescued and died on the way to the hospital. We want exemplary punishment for the killers. We will soon announce the party programme.

Confirming the matter, Santhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC-Investigation) Abdul Latif said,`that the body was recovered and sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police arrested Manik Hossain,50, and Monir Hossain,32. They are residents of Chandripur village in the upazilaand work in agriculture. Details will be informed later subject to investigation.’ Tense situation is prevailing in the area. Police are on alert.
