The overall flood situation in Kurigram district is developing gradually but the flood victims are being suffered.

Some 1.5 lacs people are marooned. Although flood water is receding but those houses are not fit for living till now. The rural roads of char areas were damaged causing movement are being hampered seriously.

Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board Abdullah Al Mamun said water level of the river Dharla, Dudkumar and Brahmaputra are flowing below their respective danger level. So the flood situation is improving. After receding of flood water of some areas, the damaging signs by flood are visible there.

Deputy Director of Kurigram Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) agriculturist Abdur Rashid informed that 16000 hectares of cropland are inundated. Estimate of total loss will be conducted after receding of flood water.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rejaul Karim said some 538 MT rice, 36.50 lacs taka and 1000 packets of dry food are being distributed among flood victims.

Many flood victims at char areas alleged that they have not received any relief materials till now.

On the other hand, river erosion is also going on in some points with receding of flood water.

Talking to Aminul Mistry 60 and Alhaj Mistry 35 of Hoker char under Hatia union of Ulipur upazila said the houses of nine families here eroded within last two days by the gulping Brahmaputra River.

The char Bagua under Saheber Alga union of Ulipur upazila is surrounded by the Brahmaputra River. There is no school, haat and bazaar in this char. Some 15 houses were eroded with the last seven days. Hares Molla 55, Bipul Uddin 34 and Aminul doctor (quack) said that we are frustrated as the River is eroding here.

Lal Miah 36, Nural30 and Asar Uddin 40 of char Bagua adjacent Anandabazar said a total of 34 houses were eroded here in this flood.

UP member of word no-5 under Saheber Alga union Abu Sayem said there are five villages at Gujimari char and 3000 people live here but they did not received any relief as inadequate. He also claimed that he made a list of 151 families of River erosion and deposited to concern UNO.

Former chairman of Hatia union of Ulipur upazila Abul Hossain said the sufferings of flood victims have been increased due to inadequate relief. The people of remote char areas are the worst sufferer.

The farmer Maidul Islam, Taiyab Ali and Siddik member of Mosaler char under Begumganj union said their jute fields were inundated by flood water. But now although flood water is receding but those jute fields have been damaged with sands which came with current of flood water.
