Flood protection embankment damaged in Kurigram

Water level of the major Rivers in Kurigram are increasing due to rainfall and onrush of water from upstream. The Dudkumar River water is crossing above four feet on around 500meterembankment atMureaghat point and Ansarhatpoint under Bamondanga union ofNageswariupazila. Most of the river side houses are inundated and the water is entering at Nageswari municipality areaand Kaliganj union and some hundreds of houses areinundating.

Kurigramm Water Development Board official sources said water level of the Dharla River is flowing 21cm above danger mark at Kurigram Bridge point and 20 cm above danger mark at Talukshimulbari point, the DudkumarRiver is flowing 54 cm above danger mark at Pateswari point,the Brahmaputra River is increasing and flowing 26 cm below danger mark at Noonkhawa point and the Brahmaputra 34cm below danger mark atChilmari pointat 3.00 pm on Friday.

The peopleof River side, char areas and fresh areas are being submerged.The Dudkumari River water is entering at Monirchar, Mominganj, Rayganj, Berumari,Ballaverkhas,Kackakata and Narayanpur union under Nageswariupazila.

Former member of Bamondanga UP Sajimuddin said most of the houses of the union are inundated. Several ponds are inundated causing fishes worth of several crore have been washed away. All the houses of low lying areas have inundated and the rural roads have also been gone under water. Movement from one place to another are being hampered. The farmers are frustrated with their poultry birds and domestic animals. Scarcity of pure drinking water and dry food are prevailing there.

Chairman of Bamondanga UP AshaduzzamanRony admitted the incident and told that the water is flowing over the road and a large portion of the road has been damaged.

Executive Engineer of Kurigramm Water Development Board Abdullah Al Mamun admitted the incident and told that River water is crossing about two feet high on 500 meter road and the road has been damaged. The water is entering into the fields and houses. But no crops in the fields at present, he added.

Nageswari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (acting) Ahmed Sadat told this correspondent that many places are inundated and we are distributing 10 kgs of rice per head at Bamondanga along with local law maker Aslam Hossain Saodagortoday and same distribution will at Raiganj tomorrow.
