Faruk become self-reliant farming orange in Kurigram

One youth Faruk’s dream is going to be materialized to be self-reliant farming China Jhuri variety of orange in Kurigram.

While visiting on the spot and found that he has cultivated orange on his two bighas of land where he has more than two hundred orange trees. The oranges are ripping and yellow in color at present which are very attractive to look at. The oranges were fruit bearing after 18 months of planting. Now the age of the planted orange trees are thirty months.   He has been started for orange farming as commercial basis. He will be started harvesting after twenty days and he is expecting of around 15-20 maunds yield. The price of those oranges are around eighty thousand in whole sale market.As a result, it will double profit deducting cultivating cost.

He is the son of KaziHabibur Rahman of Belgacha union in Kurigramsadarupazila. He choices agriculture sector for self-reliant after completing his education. He begins combined orchard on six acres of father’s land. He cultivated various varieties of Mango,Malta, Grapes including Orange.At first he was collected a China Jhuri variety of Orange from Bogura. He was cultivated one hundred orange on his two bighas of land by cutting system (colom) from one tree. He is getting fruits from cutting system (colom) trees after 18 months.Now he is getting yield as commercial basis. There is no extra problems in the orange farming. Good yield will be received spraying compost fertilizer, anti-insects and anti-fungus in time.

Abu RaihanFaruk told this correspondent that I have not tried in search of job rather I choices in agriculture sector to be self-reliant.My interest to cultivate orange in a large scaleasits market demand has been increased.The oranges in his farm are sweetly and delicious, he said.

Oranges have to import to our country from various foreign countries to meet the demand of the people. If it cultivate commercially in our country it will   possible not only export to foreign countriesbut also it will earn foreign exchange meeting local demand, he opined.

Mohammad Kabir Hossain who came to visit the orange farming said that I am very glad to see the orange farming of Faruk. It is possible to earn a good money by such kind of farming. I have also decided to create an orange farm.I will be benefitted if agriculture department will help me.

Deputy Director of Kurigram Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Biplob Kumar Mohanto said orange cultivation is new in the district. No target has been fixed of orange farming in the district, Agriculture department will provide all kinds of support to Faruk’s orange farm,he added.
