Enhancing mutual trust, understanding between the police, the youth underscored to build crime free Bangladesh

Speakers in a function here underscored the need for enhancing mutual trust and understanding between the police and the youths to  createcrime free chars in a bid to build crime free Bangladesh.

“ As the chars are located in remote areas and communication system is not satisfactory more compared to main land , it is not possible to take quick action by the law enforcement agencies to bring the awkward  situation under control timely and quickly. In this context, the youths living in chars could contribute much to maintain peaceful situation at their respective areas if the youth are imparted need base training by the police”, they also said.

They made the comments while they were addressing an inception workshop of a project entitled “Transforming Police Youth Relations in the Northern Districts of Bangladesh” held at the conference room of the superintendent of police (SP) of the town here on Monday.

FRIENDSHIP, an international social purpose organization, arranged the workshop to brief the police officials here about the project and its overall activities in project command char areas of the district.

SP NishatAngella formally inaugurated the function as the chief guest.

Additional police super (Admin & Finance) Ibrahim Hossain, additional police super (Crime & Ops)Shariful Islam spoke at  the function as the special guests.

Earlier, Nazmul Hossain, an official of the organization, briefed the police officials about the activities of the project elaborately and said the project funded by Friendship LUXEMBOURG would be implemented in hard to reach chars of Gaibandha and Kurigramdistricts from February 2025 to January 2026 aimed at improving relations between the police and the char’s youth to maintain peaceful law and order situation in chars of the district.

SP NishatAngella in her speeches termed the youths as the driving forces of the country and emphasized for ensuring peaceful environment in the chars here through involving the youths in community policing activity to build crime free happy, prosperous, beautiful Bangladesh.

She also gave her assurance to provide all sorts of help and cooperation from the district police to make the project a grand success here.

A number of police officials ranking from sub inspectors to police super and the representatives of the organization attended the workshop.

FRIENDSHIP has been working in the districts over 22 years last for changing the socio-economic conditions of the marginalized and underprivileged char people of the districts through empowering and bringing them under the mainstream of development, said Barrister Ayesha Taasin, senior director of Inclusive Citizenship.

Through its Inclusive Citizenship program, FRIENDSHIP has established strong networks with local communities, law enforcement agencies, and government offices to attain the cherished goals of the organization, she concluded.
