Delivery service facilities for the pregnant mothers of Ballamjhar union under Sadarupazila in the district was launched amid much enthusiasm to the locals on Tuesday.
From now, the pregnant mothers of the union would get the facilities from union Sub Health Center for 24 hours in a week under MAMOTA Project being implemented by Save the Children in partnership with a local NGO SKS Foundation in cooperation with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
A launching ceremony was also held at the arrangement of the union parishad(UP) at the auditorium of the UPcomplex in the afternoon with UP Chairman Md. Julficar Rahman in the chair.
Whip of the JatiyaSangshad and also local lawmaker MahabubAra Begum Gini attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and deputy director(DD) of the department of family planning here Saiful Islam and Sadar UNO SharifulAlam spoke at the event as the special guests.
Speaking on the occasion Whip Gini said the government along with non- government organizations has been working relentlessly since 2009 to reduce the maternal and child mortality in the country through providing quality and safe delivery services to the pregnant mothers.
For launching the services, the pregnant mothers of the union would get quality services from the center during their childbirth, she added.
DD of the department of family planning urged the locals to take quality services from the center for their pregnant mothers to ensure their normal and safe deliveriesavoiding delivery related severe complexities.
In reply to a query the DD said two trained and experienced midwives would provide the need services in the center all the time of a day.
UP chairman Julficar Rahman in his concluding speeches thanked the concerned for launching the services considering the interest of the pregnant mothers.
A large number of people including public representatives, local elite, NGO activists and pregnant mothers attended the function.
Md. Farooque Hossain, head of Gaibandha field office, Save the children said similar type of services for the pregnant mothers was also launched at Ghagoa union sub health center of Sadarupazila a few days ago.
