Char farmers getting solvent by rearing cattle head

Cattle farming has brought solvency for char farmers as they are making good profit with the profession in Gaibandha district. They have already started changing economic condition by rearing commercial cattle in the char land.

The economic development of the people of vast char area is boosting to bring revolutionary change for life style from the last few years with the logistic support of Rural Development Academy and Swiss contract simultaneously.

Meanwhile, thousands of extremely poor people living in the vast char areas of Bogura, Kurigram and Gaibandha districts have successfully overcome abject poverty through cattle head rearing

The people of the areas, cutting the poverty rate in the district, have started changing socio-economic condition and educating their children, said a farmer Saidul Islam, 30, son of Zafor Sheikh at KhatiaMari village under Fulsory upazila. It is also keeping very important role for removing the existing protein deficiency.

The project titled “Making Markets Work for the Jamuna and Teesta Chars (M4C)” jointly implemented by Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogura and Swiss Contact-Bangladesh in 10 districts of North-Western region of the country to make the farmers self-reliant, said Joint Director of RDA and project director of M4C Dr Md Abdul Majid Pramanik.

Farmer Mozammel Hossain said the farmers of char areas rear the cattle heads at their houses for selling during the Eid-ul-Azha every year which is considered as the extra income. Besides, some farmers have been rearing cows to produce milk.

Chairman of Fazlipur Union under Phulsory upazila of Gaibandha Md Ansar Ali said thousands of char farmers have changed their life style rearing cattle and most of the farmers of the areas are maintaining their lives selling milk.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Md Mahfuzar Rahman said many farmers have started mini cattle farm with own initiative in the district and they give necessary suggestion to the cattle farmers to develop their domestic farms.
