Pabna Science and Technology University administration on Tuesday celebrated ‘Sheikh Russel Day’ on the 58th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s youngest son Sheikh Russel.
Vice-Chancellor ProfDr. HafizaKhatun, pro vice chancellor Prof Dr. SM Mustafa Kamal Khan, Treasurer Prof. Dr. KM Salah Uddin paid tribute to Sheikh Russel’s portrait at the ‘JanakJyotirmoy’ commemorative mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary on the PUST campus.Proctor’s office and students advisory paid more respects.
A discussion on the occasion of the day, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. HafizaKhatun said, birthday means joy, cake cutting but today we are mourning.On August 15, Sheikh Russel was the victim of a hellish murder. Sheikh Russel is the epitome of serenity, bold, lively and fearless. We protest this hellish killing.
She expressed her determination to take the country forward by embracing ideal education. We must embrace progressive learning. Only then will we get the gift of a just society. PUST registrar Bijan Kumar Brahm conducted the programmeand pro vice chancellor Prof Dr. SM Mustafa Kamal Khan, treasurer Prof. Dr. KM Salah Uddin and others also spoke.
Pro vice chancellor Professor Dr. SM Mustafa Kamal Khan said that national heroes have been killed in different countries over time due to social evolution. There was a plan to change the map of the country by killing Bangabandhu and his family members August 15. But the conspirators failed and fell into the dustbin of history. Sheikh Russel will remain in people’s hearts for the rest of his life.
Treasurer Professor Dr. KM Salah Uddin said, if Russel was alive, maybe the nation would have got a patriotic leader.
At the end, vice-chancellor Prof Dr. HafizaKhatun along with pro vice chancellor and treasurer planted some trees.
Proctor Md. Kamal Hossain, student advisor Sameeran Kumar Saha along with dean of various faculties, hall provost, department chair, senior faculty-staff, students and staff were present at this time.
