The bumper production of potol have been achieved in the current season in Kurigram. Farmers are happy to get satisfactory prices. Patol has been cultivated in 405 hectares of land in the district this year. Traders of different areas are purchasing the potole is in a large scale from Kurigram whole sale market to sale in high rates in other places.
Deputy Director (DD) of Kurigram Department Agricultural Extension (Khambarari), Abdullah Al Mamun, said that Patol has been cultivated on 405 hectares of land in Kurigram district this season. Last year it was cultivated on 390 hectares. This time it is 15 hectares more than last year. Farmers are benefiting from higher yields and better prices.
According to information from the Khamarbari, Patol harvest begins in the months of Chaitra and Boishakh. Due to the favorable weather conditions, there has been a good yield of potol this season. Patol is now retailing at Tk 35 to Tk 40 per kg in the market.
While visiting in Kurigram’s old municipal kitchen market and found that most of them are sold. Farmers are selling directly from the farm to the wholesale market. Potol traders from different districts are buying those potols.
Zainal Mia, a potol farmer of Ghogadah Union of Kurigram Sadar Upazila said, this time I have planted potol on 3 bighas of land. By the grace of Allah, there has been a very good production. I got a good price in the market. In the morning, I sold Patol at Taka 1200 per mound in the whole sale market.
Enamul, a trader at the municipal kitchen market, said that wholesalers from different districts come to buy potol from the market every day. In the morning I sold Patol wholesale for Tk 30 per kg. Later, as the day progressed, as the import was high, it had to be sold at the rate of 27 taka. The farmers are very happy getting satisfactory prices.
