In Satkhira Awareness and consultation meetings have been held with the media representatives on village court law and women friendly village courts. The meeting was held on Wednesday (February 24) in collaboration with the Bangladesh Village Court Activation (Phase II) project organized by the Satkhira district administration.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner SM Mostafa Kamal said that if justice and peace could not be established in the society, the goal of sustainable development would not be achieved. Village courts are milestones in establishing the rule of law and justice. In trivial cases, the candidates are often harassed day after day. Village courts have been set up to get rid of this harassment.

At present the number of cases is more but the number of judges is less. As a result, it is taking a long time to complete the judicial process. This often deprives people of justice. So village courts have been set up so that people are not harassed. Village courts are ensuring justice in a short time at low cost. He called on the media to spread more awareness about village courts.

It was informed in the information meeting that in the 43 months from July 2017 to January 2021, 11477 cases were filed in the village courts in 47 unions of Tala, Asashuni, Kaliganj and Shyamnagar upazilas of Satkhira. Of these, 11301 cases were settled. Judgments of 9726 cases have been implemented and 176 cases are pending.
