Adulterated jaggery and jaggery making equipment destroyed in Rajshahi

The Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection, Divisional Office, Rajshahi has seized adulterated jaggery making equipment, destroyed a large amount of jaggery and collected a fine of Tk 1 lakh 70 thousand from the owners of several establishments in Bagha, Rajshahi.

The dishonest adulterated jaggery traders are: Monirul Islam (25) of Chaksinga Panchpara village of Bagha police station and his brother Bhai-Md Shariful Islam, Meena Rani (35) wife of Shri Ratan Mandal of the same village, Md Kazim Uddin (45) son of Md Nazim, Md Rajab Ali of the same village. This information was confirmed in a press release sent by RAB-5, Rajshahi Mollakamp on Wednesday (April 12) afternoon.
According to RAB, on Tuesday, based on intelligence information, adulterated molasses is being produced in 7 factories in Choksinga Panchpara village under Bagha police station of Rajshahi.

Based on such information, a raid team of RAB-5 Rajshahi was led by Fazle Elahi, Assistant Director (Metro), Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection, Divisional Office, Rajshahi. During this time adulterated molasses-3600 kg, lime-5 kg, hydrate-3 kg, soda-6 kg, dalda-12 kg, color-4 kg, castor-3 kg, sugar-550 kg were seized. At that time, the owners of the establishment were fined 1 lakh 70 thousand in cash. The cash collected has been deposited in the government treasury.

RAB also said that during interrogation, the owners of the establishment admitted to making adulterated jaggery.
