Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified security measures along the country’s border areas ahead of the forthcoming 13th national parliamentary election to ensure a peaceful, free, fair and credible polling environment slated for February 12.

BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui told a recent media briefing that the force is fully prepared to carry out its constitutional responsibilities in a professional, disciplined and politically neutral manner.

The BGB chief said more than 37,000 BGB members will be deployed across the country in 489 out of 495 upazilas during the election period, while BGB alone will perform duties in 61 border upazilas.

In addition, based on risk assessments, BGB personnel will be deployed as mobile and static forces in 300 parliamentary constituencies.

He said all necessary training, special briefings, legal instructions, code of conduct sessions and simulation exercises have already been completed.

Special emphasis has been placed on professionalism, restraint and lawful conduct in dealing with any situation.
