Independence Day observed in Kurigram

The 54th Independenceand National Day was observed in Kurigram amid fervor and with due honor on March 26, 2024.

People of all walks of life including district administration, police, government and non-government officials, political parties,and cultural organizations gathered in ShadhinatarBijoyStambha beside Kurigram stadium early in the morning carrying banners and floral wreaths early in the morning.

The National flag was hoisted at the top of all government, semi-government, non-government and private buildings.  The program has started with A-31 gun salute. Then the floral wreaths have been placed there and at the end of placing floral wreath a doamahfil was held for those heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country conducted by principal of KurigramAleaMadrashaMaolana Mohammad Noor Bakhat.

The National Flag was hoisted formally by the Deputy Commissioner at 8.30am in Kurigram stadium ground. Then a march past was held with Police.Anser,Village Defense Party (VDP), BNCC and both male and female students of different education institutes. National Anthem and display were also held.Sports in various events and a discussion meeting on leadership of the Bangobandhu, father of the Nation and development of the country was held in DC office at 11am.

Documentary cinema show was held in choice able time in MuktijoddhaSangsad,various educational institutes and public assembles places conducted by Kurigram Information office, a special doa was held in all the mosques and other religious institutions after Johor prayer seeking peace, prosperity, development and progress for the nation,the valiant freedom fighter and shahid freedom fighters and their families were given warm reception and iftermahfil was held in sheikh Rassel Auditorium.

Art competition, recitation, patriotism songs, sports competition and freedom fight affairs quiz competition were held at Bangladesh Shishu Academy. Developed diets have been supplied in hospitals, jail and government shishuparibar. The important government, semi-government and autonomous buildings were decorated with lighting.

On the other hand,the staffs of KurigramZilaParishad led by Chief Executive officer (CEO) Ferujul Islam placed floral wreath on the portrait of Bangobandhu in ZilaParishad office premises and Tromohani. A prize giving ceremony among the winners of Art competition and poetry recitation was held in the conference room where a discussion meeting was also held. CEO Ferujul Islam was the chief guest while Assistant Engineer Mizanur Rahman was presided and member of ZilaParishadEkramulHaque Bulbul was the special guests. Al the staffs and guardians of the participants and reporters were also present.The day was the government holiday.

The same programs was also held in all the nine upazilas in the district. In the early hours of 26 March 1971, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed the country’s independence following the heinous attack on unarmed Bangalees by Pakistan forces on the midnight of 25 March.

The war broke out on 26 March when the Pakistan military launched operations against Bangalee civilians, students, intelligentsia and armed personnel. Defecting Bangalee military and paramilitary as well as civilians by forming ‘MuktiBahini’ started guerrilla warfare against the Pakistan occupation forces.

Jamaat-e-Islami opposed the independence of erstwhile East Pakistan and formed militias such as Razakars, Al-Badr and Al-Shams which massacred Bangalee civilians.

Bangladesh gained independence after a nine-month bloody war against Pakistan through the supreme sacrifices of three million people. Two lakh women also lost their chastity during the war.
