At least one person was killed and 12 others were injured in a bus-truck collision at Ishwardi in Pabna on Saturday.

The accident took place at Amtalinear Muladuli Agricultural Farm underIswardiupazila on the Natore-Kushtia highway around 11 am.

The deceased is bus helper, but his identity has not been ascertained. All the injured have been admitted to IshwardiUpazila Health Complex. However, it is feared that the death toll may increase, police said.

According to police and locals, a head-on collision took place at Amtalinear Muladuli Agricultural Farm when a bus named Rabbi Paribahan from Rajshahi was heading towards Pabna and another truck was heading towards Natore from Rajshahi, leaving one man died on the spot and 12 people were injured.

Pakshi Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashish Kumar Sanal said, immediately after receiving the news, the police and fire service members rescued the injured and admitted them to IshwardiUpazila Health Complex. Four of them injured shifted from there to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, hospital authorities said.

Some local eyewitnesses said that the accident occurred due to reckless driving of both the vehicles.After the accident, both the vehicles were thrown on both sides of the highway.At this time, there was a traffic jam on the highway.Later the police cleared the traffic.

Buses and trucks have been impounded, police said.
