At least 5 people have been sentenced to prison for the crime of illegal extraction of sand in Sariakandi of Bogura. Executive Magistrate and Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabuj Kumar Basak conducted a mobile court operation on the bank of Jamuna river in Khepir Para area of Hasnapara village of Hatsherpur union of upazila last Tuesday afternoon.
There, he arrested five people for the crime of illegally extracting sand from the Jamuna river by installing a dredger machine. After that, he set up a mobile court and sentenced one person to 10 days and four people to 7 days each.
The accused who were sentenced to 10 days’ imprisonment are Nurul Islam (40), son of late Abdul Khan of Dhara Barsha village of Chalwabari union of the upazila, the accused who were sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment are Mozaffar Hossain (45), son of deceased Ashraf Gabari of the same village, Ajit (28), son of Karim Pramanik of Shimultair village of the same union. ), son of late Badsha Sardar, Montu Sardar (28) and Alal Sheikh (28), son of Jewel Haque Sheikh of Bahuladanga village. SI Hossain Ali of Sariakandi police station was present.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabuj Kumar Basak told reporter that 5 people have been sentenced to imprisonment in the mobile court for the crime of illegal sand extraction. The accused have been sent to the district jail through the thana police.
