Water level of Rivers are increasing slightly due to onrush of water from upstream causing river erosion has been started in several points in Kurigram district. The people who live in the river sides including Brahmaputra,Dharla and Dudkumar  are passing days in  panic with their homesteads as well as crop lands. Government and non-government establishments including school,college,Madrasha and community center are being threatened in spite of through G.O. bags to protect river erosion.

Homesteads and croplands have gone into the Dudkumar and Brahmaputra river bed at Ulipur,Chilmari and KurigramSadarupazila within the last one week. The river erosion has taken a serious turn at Char Bhagabatipur under Jatrapur union in Sadarupazila.

Consequently,Char Bhagabatipur Secondary school has been eroded by the gulping river Brahmaputra. In addition, the adjoining four villages including Char Bhagabatipur community clinic are being threatened.

As the river erosion starts before coming flood situation, the suffering of the people in these region will no bound in the upcoming flood, locals opined. The villagers demanded immediate to implement for emergency river administration system.

The farmer of Char Bhagabatipur Noor Islam 35 said my two bighas of cultivable land have already been eroded within the last week.It is not the time of flood but what will we do when the flood will come, he frustrated.

CHCP of Char Bhagabatipur community clinic Rashedul Islam said several houses including crop lands have gone into the mighty and gulping Brahmaputra river bed within the last several days. The clinic is in threatened which may be eroded at any moment. We have removed furniture and medicines of the clinic to another safer place where treatment are being provided as temporary basis.

KurigramSadarupazila Health and Family Planning officer Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam said we tried to save the clinic but failed. We don’t know when the work of infrastructure of the clinic will start but the treatment facilities will be provided as temporary basis.\

Chairman of Jatrapur union council Abdu Gafur said around 36 houses have already been eroded. We are preparing list of river erosion victims which will be submitted to upazla administration within two days. One secondary school initiated and built by upazila administration which has been gone in the river bed. One community clinic is about to eroding.

Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board Abdullah Al Mamun said water level of the Brahmaputra River increased due to onrush of water from upstream. The river is eroding at char areas at present. A project proposal around Tk. seven crore for temporary work to protect river erosion at Char Bhagabatipur has been sent. We are trying the best to protect the river erosion.
