An office assistant was killed during robbery at Bogura main Post Office at Shatmatha in Bogura on early Monday night. The deceased was identified as Proshanto Kumar Acharjawa, 48, son of late Pran Krishno Acharjawa at Bejora uttorpara under Shajahanpur upazila in Bogura.
Post Office sources said that he was an office assistant and as he was a hindu religious person, he was given charge as the night guard during the eid vacation by the authority.
Later a gang of robbers entered the post office and killed the office assistant by hitting him on his head for conducting robbery, added the source.
Post Master Rakib Biswash said that through CC Camera at around 2 am on Monday an unidentified person entered into the post office and cut CC camera connection and a gang of robbers perhaps tried to break the volt of the post office and robbed some money from the volt where around at Tk.45 lakh was kept locked.
Police said that Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bogura Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bogura Md. Saiful Islam visited the PO of the post office area and the deceased brother Gobinda Chandra Acharjawa was taken under police custody.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bogura Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty said that investigation has been conducted with utmost care over the killing and robbery and initially it seemed to an effort of robbery and different bodies of law-enforcers have been working in the crime scene.
The deceased dead body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital (SZMCH) in Bogura for autopsy and a case over the incident will be lodged, added the SP.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bogura Md. Saiful Islam said that the law enforcers have been investigating the robbery and killing with utmost care and the robbers could not break the volt.
