The police said that no evidence of camp affiliation was found against the three students of Pabna Science and Technology University who were brutally tortured by the Chhatra League.
Besides, the injured students have been handed over to their families as no complaint has been filed by the university.
On Thursday morning, Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kripa Sindhu Bala said that three injured students were brought to the police station on Tuesday night and treated.
One person was hospitalised. But later the university authorities did not file any complaint against them.
The OC also said that we have spoken to the OCs of Mirpur in Kushtia, Baraigram in Natore and Atgharia Police Station in Pabna regarding the issue of students. Inquired about their family status and political affiliations. No evidence of Chhatra Shibir affiliation was found against the three students. There is no complaint against them in the concerned police station.
OC Kripa Sindhu Bala said that neither the university authorities nor anyone else filed any complaint against the three students. So, the three students were handed over to their families on Wednesday night. However, the investigation into all matters is continuing.
It is to be noted that University Chhatra League president Faridul Islam Babu and activists tortured three innocent students of Pabna Science and Technology University on the suspicion of Chhatra Shibir.
After the torture, Chhatra League and PUST authorities handed them over to the police as Shinir workers. However, they denied the allegations of beating or torture.
Chhatra League and PUST authorities claim that they were not tortured in any way. They have been handed over to the police in a healthy condition. There was no sign of injury on their body at that time. But the police claimed that the students were rescued in injured condition.
The victimised students are Gholam Rahman Joy, final year Masters of Public Administration Department, Asadul Islam, fourth year student of English Department and Azizul Haque, third year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department. They have been admitted to Pabna Genera Hospital.
Eyewitnesses said that the three victim students were sitting near Shaheed Minar of the university after Tarabi prayers.
Injured three students said to the journalists some 10-12 people including Chhatra League workers Apel, Shehzad, Tofiq came to us and wanted to know if we were Chhatra Shibir. Later, BCL activists took them from Shaheed Minar to the hall for questioning.
At that time, under the leadership of PUST BCL president Faridul Islam Babu, BCL others leaders and activists took us to three rooms of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and tortured us with weapons including stamps, rods, hockey sticks, and sticks. They also beat us with hammer, ji pipe, lock.
At one stage of the torture, they confessed their involvement with the Shibir and were later handed over to the police.
