The 53rd Independence and National Day was observed in Kurigram district on Sunday (March 26) in a befitting manner.

The day’s programs began with 31 gun salute early in the morning then by placing wreaths by president and secretary of district unit of AL and chairman of ZilaParishadAlhajMdJafar Ali and chairman of sadarupazilaparishadAman Uddin Ahmed Monju respectively, DC, SP, Civil surgeon, government, non-government, semi-government and other organizations at the “ShadhinatarBijoyStambho” in outer stadium of Kurigram early in the morning as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs.

Then, the officers and other staff of the offices stood in solemn silence for a minute in memory of the martyrs of the Liberation War in 1971.At the end of silence a DiaMahfil was held there conducted by principal of Kurigram Alia KamilMadrashaAlhaj Noor Bakhoth.

Later wreaths were also placed at “MuktijoddhaSretiFolok” near government high school and at Ghoshpara.

Wreaths were also placed in the BangobodhuSretiStambho at Trimohony and in front of ZilaParishad office led by President of district unit of AL and chairman of ZilaParishad(former MP) Alhaj Md. Jafar Ali,ZilaParishad member EkramulHaque Bulbul,former MP Nazmin Sultana(Nazly),ZilaParishad engineer Mizanur Rahman and other staff were also present among others.

The national flag was hoisted atop of all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings with the rises of sun. Important buildings and establishments were illuminated with colorful lights. The Day was public holiday.

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad SaidulArif formally hoisted the national flag in the stadium at 8.00am.At the end of hoisting flag national anthem,March paste of police,Fire Fighters,Ansers and students of various educational institutes and attractive display were held. Friendship Kabadi and football match were also held in the stadium.at 9.30 am.

A discussion meeting on historic leadership of Bangobandhu and development of the country was held in the conference room of DC office at 11.30am. Special doaMahfilwas held after Zohor prayer in religious institutes for peace, prosperity,progress and development of the country.

Reception were given in local Freedom Fighters and families of late Freedom Fighters in Sheikh Rasel Auditoriumat 3.30pm. Competition of art, recitation of poems, patriotic songs, sports and quiz were held.

Developed foods were served in hospitals.Jail and orphanage. On the other hand,President of district unit of AL and chairman of ZilaParishad(former MP) Alhaj Md. Jafar Ali, distributed clothes (Shari and Lungi) among 100 poor and ultra-poor men and women including Ifter box at 5.pm on the day.

Same programs were also held in all the nine upazilas in the district
