Two college teachers in Pabna’s Santhiaupazila were sued in a case on Sunday for allegedly insulting Bangladesh’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The ruling Awami League’s local leader, MNH Zakir Hossain, filed the case with the judicial magistrate court-5 in the district.

The accused are Tarit Kumar Kundu, acting principal, and Mahbub Rahman, assistant professor of Bangla department of Kashinathpur Shahid Nurul Hossain Degree College, according to court officials.

As per the case document, a magazine named ‘UchhasitoSubarna’ published on the occasion of golden jubilee of the college, published a greeting advertisement from a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader with a photo of his business entity on the front page of the magazine.

The magazine’s second and third pages contained photos of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and prime minister Sheikh Hasina respectively.

Mujibur Rahman Mukul, a member of the college governing body, said, ‘I demand quick arrest of those involved in such act.’

Tarit Kumar Kundu, acting principal of the college, said, ‘We did not give it a serious thought because we printed the advertisement for money.’

Santhiaupazilanirbahi officer Masud Hossain, also president of the college governing body, said, ‘I did not know anything about this. The authorities published the magazine without contacting me.’

‘I did not expect such a sloppy work from the college authorities.’

The court took cognisance of the case and assigned the Police Bureau of Investigation to probe into the incident.
