Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed over a Nilgai of rare species recovered from Chapainawabganj to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park.

BGB Dhaka Sector Commander Colonel Abu Mohammad Mohiuddin handed it over to Chanaulya Patwari, director of wildlife crime unit in Gazipur on Thursday morning. At this time BGB Director (Veterinary) A. No. M. Ashraful Alam Mandal and other officers of the force and the concerned officials of the forest department were present.

Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer of BGB, said that the patrol team of Sonamsjid BOP of BGB’s Rahanpur Battalion (59 BGB) recovered the injured nilgai from Hausnagar area bordering Daipukur Union of Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj on October 26 last year.

He was seriously injured while running away from the locals. After not eating for a long time, he became very weak and dying. Later this rare animal was rescued and treated by its own veterinary doctor for two months and eight days under the supervision of BGB.

Along with providing the necessary food and shelter, they are fully cured through intensive care. Then BGB handed him over on Thursday.
According to BGB, earlier on February 23, 2021, BGB recovered a nilgai which was almost dead after being brutalized by locals in Kantivita area of Thakurgaon.

The animal was brought back to health through prolonged treatment and intensive care. Apart from this, on January 6 last year, the patrol team of Bairchuna BOP of Dinajpur Battalion rescued another injured Nilgai and recovered it through treatment and care. Later, the two Nilgai were brought to Dhaka and sheltered in Pilkhana sanctuary.
