Women Football Tournament has been held in a festive atmosphere with the presence of thousands of spectators in the Sherpur DJ High School playground under Sherpur upazila of Bogura district.
Around the playground, people of various classes were eager to watch the football game.The opening match of the women Football Tournament on Friday (October 21) has become a different look on the occasion.
The tournament has been organized by the local Sportsmen’s Welfare Association. Women Football Tournament is the first in this upazila.So, apart from the municipal area, thousands of spectaculars from different villages of the upazila came and enjoyed the game peacefully.
Member of National Parliament of Bogura-5 (Sherpur-Dhunot) constituency Heroic Freedom Fighter Alhaj¦ Habibar Rahman announced the official opening of the tournament through a mobile phone conference. Later, the former mayor of Sherpur Municipality, Swadhin Kumar Kundu and the newly elected member of Bogura Zilla Parishad, Mostafizur Rahman Bhutto, inaugurated the tournament by blowing balloon from the playground.
Sonatala Women’s Football XI vs Gobindganj Women’s Football XI have participated in the opening game. A tense 60-minute match ended goalless. After that, Sonatal XI won by defeating Gobindganj XI 5-4 in the tribreaker. Abdul Khalek and Rezaul Karim managed the game. Motaleb Hossain was the referee and Baman Kundu and Hussain Ali performed the duties of linesman of the game respectively.
Convener of the tournament organizing committee Chandan Kumar Das Rinku and member secretary Ahsanul Adib Shapla said, “Half of the country’s manpower is women. Development of the country is not possible without them.”
“Moreover, great creation of the world, do good forever, half of it is made by women, half by men.So this tournament is organized to encourage women.” they added.
“Women of our country are not behind because our girls will play football, many could not think about it in the 90s.
But at present women are far ahead in the football game.” they also added.
