Sweets have been distributed after announce the death sentence of former Member of Parliament (MP) Abdul Momen Talukder Khoka in Bogura on Wednesday.
Former BNP backed MP of Bogura-3 (Adamdighi-Dupchanchia) constituency has been sentenced to death by the International Criminal Tribunal. Leaders and activists of the freedom fighters, Awami League and its affiliated organizations have expressed satisfaction over this verdict.
A murder case against Khoka on June 1, 1972 at the Adamdighi police station was filed the first after the independence.
The case was later adjourned for unknown reasons. In 1971, Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka, in collaboration with the Pak-aggressor forces, was accused of killing, raping and setting fire to freedom fighters and other civilians in different areas of the upazila.
The court directed the OD of Adamdighi police station to take cognizance of the plaintiff’s allegations. At that time he recorded the case at Adamdighi police station and sent it to the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka for further investigation.
After that, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police JTM Altafur Rahman, Prosecutor Aid, Sultan Mahmud Simon and other members of the investigation committee submitted a report against Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka to the court after a long investigation.
The court issued an arrest warrant against Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka on May 15, 2017. He has been on the run ever since. Following the testimony in the case, the International Criminal Tribunal, Abdul Momin Talukder announced the death sentence against Khoka on Wednesday morning.
After the verdict was announced, heroic freedom fighters, Awami League and pro-independence people distributed sweets in Adamdighi, held a joyous procession and discussion meeting at the initiative of Muktijoddha Sangsad.
Former freedom fighter commander Abdul Hamid, Upazila Awami League president Sirajul Islam Khan Raju, vice-president Abu Reza Khan, Nazimul Huda Khandaker, Suminul Islam Sumon, Zillur Rahman and others addressed the meeting at the bus stand area at 12 noon on Wednesday.
The plaintiff in the case, freedom fighter Subid Ali, expressed satisfaction with the verdict and said that he wanted to see the verdict effective while he was alive. Adamdighi Upazila Awami League president and upazila chairman Sirajul Islam Khan Raju expressed satisfaction over the verdict and demanded immediate arrest of fugitive killer Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka and enforcement of this historic verdict. Heroic freedom fighters Abdul Hamid, Abir Uddin, Awami League co-president Abu Reza Khan, nephew of martyred heroic freedom fighter Abdus Chatter expressed satisfaction over the verdict and demanded immediate execution of the verdict.
On the other hand, joyous procession and discussion meeting was held on the initiative of Santahar Municipal Awami League of the upazila. No statement has been received from the family of convicted accused Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka in this case.
