Volunteers of Zoom Bangladesh here cleaned the campus of Gaibandha Govt. College of the district town on Friday.
Due to Corona pandemic the academic activities of the college which is the largest academic institution in the district were suspended for 17 months at the directive of the government to check the spread of covid-19. to the students and the teachers.
For reducing the positivity rate of covid -19, the government took decision to reopen schools, colleges of the country on September 12.
As the college was closed for a long time, dirty garbage like pieces of papers, dirty polythin bags and almond shells were visible on the college campus. The outsiders and the visitors threw the garbage here and there of the campus not leaving it in the dustbins kept on the campus.
As a result, the scenario of the campus was turned into a dirty one. As the college will reopen on September 12, the authorities of Zoom Bangladesh here took initiative to clean the campus of the college.
Accordingly, as many as 30 volunteers of the organization conducted a cleanliness drive on the college campus on Friday and cleaned the campus. At present, the whole campus of the college was turned into a cleaned one as there is no dirty waste in the campus.
The drive started at 9 AM and continued till noon. Chief coordinator of the organization here Md. RajeebSarker formally inaugurated the drive at the campus. Later, the volunteers conducted the drive being divided into various groups.
Md. Mehedi Hasan, coordinator of Zoom Bangladesh here, said the campus of the college remained uncleaned. The out siders and the visitors made the campus uncleaned for throwing waste on the campus for want of awareness about cleanliness.
Such type of uncleaned campus looks very mismatched and injurious to environment as well. Taking this in view, they took the initiative to clean the campus, he added.
In reply to a query, Mehedi said they also conducted the cleanliness drive in the platform of Gaibandha Rail station and its adjoining areas earlier.
Acting principal of the college Professor MD. Khalilur Rahman thanked the volunteers of Zoom Bangladesh here for making the campus of the college cleaned just before reopening the college and expressed his gratefulness to them.
