Abolamban, a voluntary organization of Gaibandha, and DOPS, a voluntary organization of Rangpur jointly distributed food materials as aid to a number of people and dalit marginal community of Rangpur city very recently following the health guidelines of corona.
The food materials were distributed to 900 indigenous and Dalit families hardest hit by corona pandemic to mitigate their sufferings caused by covid-19 in cooperation with National Human Rights Commission of Swiss Embassy and Human Rights and Justice Program of UNDP at the direct supervision of upazila administration under Covid 19 Human Rights Response.
A simple function was also held on the premises of Rangpur Sadarupazila at Co Bazaar area of Rangpur divisional town on july 06.
Sadar UNO Israt Sadia Sumi attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest. The function was also addressed among others by convener of AdibashiBangaliSonghatiParishad Advocate Sirajul Islam Babu, executive director of AbolambanProbirChakrabartee, executive director of DOPS UzzalChakrabartee, Dalit Leader Advocate Monilal Dash, assistant secretary of ShushanerJonnoNagorik Golam SazzadHaidarShwadhin, human rights worker PolashKantiNaag and indigenous leader Tulip Ekka.
The speakers in their speeches said due to Corona and lockdown many of the people of the communities have become jobless and they were passing their days with hardships. Considering their sorrows, the organizations stood beside them with food materials, they added.
UNO Israt Sadia Sumi in her speeches thanked the organizations for standing beside the ethnic men with food materials to help pass their days and nights without trouble during the Corona pandemic situation.
Later the UNO formally distributed the sack of food to 900 beneficiaries as the chief guest. Each of the beneficiaries received a package which contained 12 kgsof rice (Minicate), 6 kgs of flour, 3 kgs of pulse, a kg of sugar, 2 litres of Soyabean oil, a kg of salt, a kg of beaten rice (chira), a kg of suzi and 6 pieces of soap.
After getting the food materials and other essential all beneficiaries are happy and expressed their gratefulness to the organizations and donors. A number of upazila level officials, civil society members and journalists were present on the occasion.
