While repairing the railway line at Bhangura in Pabna, the crane overturned and fell on the line, cutting off the north-south rail link with Dhaka on Sunday afternoon. As a result, the passengers of three intercity express Dhaka-bound trains got into trouble in this incident. The train movement is normal after 3 hours.

The accident took place at Bhangura railway station on the Ishwardi-Dhaka route on Sunday at around 2.30pm.

Locals said that on Sunday afternoon, the contractor Castle Construction was unloading the slippers molded on the railway line with the help of a crane near Bhangura railway station.

At this time, as the soil became soft due to rain, the crane went to one side and overturned.

This happens when the crane is unloading the slipper as it is a very heavy machine. However, due to the short-sightedness of the engineer in charge of the contracting company, the crane overturned and fell on the main railway line, damaging the railway line and stopping the movement of trains.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka-bound Chitra Express train from Khulna, Dhaka-bound Drutayan Express from Chilahati and Lalmonirhat Express train from Lalmonirhat got stuck at Majhgram station.

Western Railway Pakshi Divisional Railway Transport Officer (DTO) Anwar Hossain said the ground was soft due to rain while repairing the railway line. As the soil is soft, the legs of the crane will fall to the ground and overturn on the line. Due to the crane falling on the main line, the rail communication with Dhaka to the north and south was closed from noon onwards.

Three Dhaka-bound trains and a Rajshahi-bound Mango special train from Dhaka are stuck.

When the relief train from Pakshi reached and picked up the crane involved in the accident, the train started running at 5 pm.
