International Women’s Day-2020 was celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe today with a call to establish a nondiscriminatory and equitable society to take the nation ahead.
This year’s theme of the day was “Women in leadership, achieving an equal future in Covid-19 world”. Marking the day, the project of Action for Socio-Economic Securityand Rights for Excluded and Marginalized Women and Girls funded by Manusherjonno Foundation, and being implemented by SKS Foundation chalked out the elaborate programmes that included forming human chain and holding rally.
Besides this, a discussion meeting was also held at the auditorium of Boali Union Parishad (UP) UNDER Sadarupazila in the district at noon with UP chairman AM Mazed Uddin Khan in the chair.
Md. Nasir Uddin, Sadarupazila social services officer, addressed the function as the chief guest. The function was also addressed among others by UP member FirozKabir and project manager Mst. Lovely Khatun.
The speakers in their speeches emphasized for concerted efforts of all government and non-government entities to establish the rights of women in the society as the nation could not move by leaving aside half of the population inactive.
Upazila social services officer Md. Nasir Uddin said the government has enacted necessary laws with a view to protecting the women and children from all types of violence incorporating provision of severe punishment. A Large number of people from all walks of life participated in the programmes.
