International Women’s Day-2021 was celebrated in Kurigram district as elsewhere in the country and the globe today with a call to be more qualified through education and training to attain their own rights.
This year’s theme of the day was “Women in leadership, achieving an equal future in Covid-19 world”.
Marking the day, Kurigram district administration and District Female Affairs Department, chalked out the elaborate programs in cooperation withFriendship, a leading non-government reputed organization. The programs included sports competition to the women and staging drama.
Apart from it, a discussion meeting was also held at Swapnokuri hall room of the deputy commissioner(DC) of the district town in the chair.
DC MohammadRezaul Karim attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and police super SyedaZannatAra and civil surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman were present at the event as the special guests while additional deputy commissioner(General) Md. Hafizur Rahman presided over the function.
Earlier, deputy director of District Female Affairs office Mst. Shahana Akhter made a welcome speech high lighting the significance of the day.
The speakers in their speeches emphasized for concerted efforts of all government and non-government entities to establish the rights of women in the society as thenation could not move by leaving aside half of the population inactive.
DC Mohammad Rezaul Karim the government has enacted necessary laws with a view to protecting thewomen and children from all types of violence incorporating provision ofsevere punishment.
District level officials, political leaders, women leaders invited persons, teachers, NGO activists participated in the programmes.
