Water level of rivers increasing in Kurigram

A total of 15 rivers including the Dharla,Teesta,Brahmaputra,Dudkumar,Gangadhar,Zinzeram and Sonavory are flowing in the Kurigram district.Water level of those rivers are increasing due to rainfall and onrush of water from upstream for the last several days.

Due to the continuous rise of water the river side poor as well as char people are being frustrated as the flood situation is knocking at their doors. Hossain ali 47, of village Ralakata char under Jatrapur union in Kurigramsadarupazila told that it is an island and water has been increasing continuously for the last three days and if it continuous, flood situation may arise in the next one week.Same phenomenon is prevailing at Begumgani and Saheber Alga under Ulipurupazila in the district.

Chairman of Jatrapur union council in sadarupazilaAbdul Gafur told this correspondent that water level of the Brahmaputra River is rapidly increasing here. Some 20/25 houses of village DakkhinKalirAlga,Jhunkarchar,Parbatipur,Ralakara and Bhagabatipur are flood affected and if it continues, several villages will be flood affected here with three/four days.

Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board Abdullah Al Mamun said that water level of the rivers may increase till June 25.The low lying areas may be flooded as the water levels of the major rivers in the district continue to rise.

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Md. SaidulArif said water level in the rivers is increasing and district administration has all kinds of preparations to deal with possible disasters.
