Two workers were killed and another was injured in an accident while they were working on the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Ishwardi on Monday noon.

The deceased were identified as Moniruzzaman, 32, son of Washed Ali of Rooppur village under Pakshi union and Madhab Chandra Sarkar, 44, son of Santosh Chandra Sarkar of Garadaha village under Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj. They were worked as laborers in a contracting company called Test Rosem.

According to the contractor, Madhab and Moniruzzaman were working under the reactor at the Rooppur nuclear power plant when a large piece of iron suddenly fell on their heads, leaving two were died on the spot and another seriously injured.

Injured worker Shifat was admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Additional superintendent of police of Ishwardi Circle Md. Feroz Kabir  confirmed the incident and said, “The bodies of the duo were sent to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.”

“It was an accidental death,” said Ruhul Quddus, a site office official at the Rooppur nuclear power plant. The police are investigating the matter.
