Two construction workers were killed in Rajshahi after being tortured by the house owner on suspicion of being a thief. They were tortured till 8 pm on Thursday.

On receiving information, the police rescued two workers who were tortured from a house adjacent to the Modern Food Factory in Sapura Bisik area of Boalia police station in the city and took them to the emergency department of Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Hospital.

Doctors there declared one dead. The other person was admitted to Ward No. 8 of the hospital with serious injuries. He also died while undergoing treatment around 9:30 pm.

The deceased are Rezaul Karim (45), son of Abdus Samad of Saguna village in Manda upazila of Naogaon and Rakibul Islam (35), son of Golam Mostafa of Chaitannapur village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. Both of them lived in Terokhadiya Dabatala area of Rajpara police station in Rajshahi city.

Mazharul Islam, OC of Boalia police station in the city, said that Rakibul and Rezaul were working on masonry for the last few days at the house of Mohammad Abdullah (38), the son of Abdul Malek Haji, the owner of the modern food factory, in front of the huge biscuit factory in the city.

On Thursday afternoon, they tied two of them to a pole and started torturing them for stealing 10 lakh taka from the house. They were tortured till 8 pm.

The OC said that two people were rescued and taken to the hospital with serious injuries after receiving information based on secret information. Among them, Rezaul was declared dead in the emergency department. Rakibul Islam later died under treatment.

OC Mazharul said that four people have been arrested in this incident. They are house owner Abdullah (38), his father-in-law Masum Reza (50), cousin brother-in-law Moin Uddin Rial (19) and Modern Food manager Imran Hossain (21). A murder case will be filed against them.
The OC also said that the two workers were tied to poles and beaten severely with iron rods and sticks to extract confessions. They recorded the video of this torture. Two such videos have been recovered. The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Morgue.
