Two killed, 20 injured in Pabna bus overturn

Two women were killed and at least 20 others were injured when a passenger bus overturned at Madhupur on the Pabna-Nagarbari highway Thursday noon.

The deceased were identified as Sultana Konika,27, daughter of Abul Kalam Azad a residence of Char Golai Madhapara in Sujanagar upazila and Morsheda Khatun,70, wife of Montu Sheikh of Barhatipur village of  Santhia upazila in Pabna.

Confirming the matter, Abul Kashem, Officer-in-Charge of Madhpur highway police station said a passenger bus was coming from Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur to Pabna. The driver lost control of the bus and fell into a ditch at Madhupur on the Pabna-Nagarbari Highway at around 1.30pm. Two died on the spot and at least 20 were injured.

Thirteen of the injured were admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) in critical condition

Masud Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) told New Age said the injured passengers of the bus informed the police that the driver was talking on his mobile phone while driving the bus. He did not listen to the passengers. That is why the accident happened.

The bodies were sent to PMCH morgue for autopsy.
