At least two construction workers were died and another was serious injured when a rope fell while working on plaster in the under-construction of Sheikh Russel Hall of Pabna Science and Technology University on Friday morning. The incident took place on the university campus around 8:30 am on Friday.
The deceased are-Tuhin Hossain,25, son of Azizur Rahman a residence of Baganpara-Charbasuderpur village in Chapainawabganj, and Asadul Ali,35, son of late Mojibur Rahman of Bigramghanti village of Godagariupazila in Rajshahi.
The injured person is Rabiul Awal,30, son of Nayan Ali a residence of Charanupnagar villagein Chapainawabganj,
PUST proctor Dr Kamal Hossain said that on Friday morning, workers were hanging ropes and plastering the exterior of Sheikh Russel Hall under construction in the university. At this time, 3 construction workers accidentally broke the rope and fell down. When they were taken to Pabna General Hospital with serious injuries, the doctor on duty declared one dead while another died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
He said, I was not in the campus during the university holidays. I haven’t heard it in person. He left for the university campus at 12:30pm. You can tell the details after going to the spot.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pabna Sadar Police Station Kripa Sindhu Bala confirmed the incident and said that two construction workers died and another injured as broke rope and fell down at the PUS.
The bodies were sent to Pabna General Hospital for post-mortem. The injured worker is undergoing treatment in RMCH.
The incident will be investigated and further legal action will be taken. The statement of the project director of the university and the related contractor was not received in this regard. Attempts were made to contact the University Vice-Chancellor Dr Hafiza Khatun on the phone, but he could not be reached.
