Leaders and activists of the Islamic University (IU) unit Bangladesh Students’ Union held a torch procession on Wednesday night, demanding justice for the murder of garment worker Santona’s murder.
The torch procession began at Jia-Mor, moved along key roads, and then gathered at the main gate. During the procession, they chanted slogans, ‘Why did my sister die, Administration, give answers’ and ‘Consequence of killing laborers, Bangladesh will be Vietnam’. That time were present general secretary Nur Alam, vice president Sadia Mahmud Mim, and other activists.
During the protests, Mahmudul Hasan, the president of the IU unit Bangladesh Students Union, said, ‘For a little suspicion, Santona was brutally murdered with her head and hands cut off. The IU unit Bangladesh Students Union Parliament strongly condemns and protests this brutal murder. Currently, extrajudicial killings are daily incidents.’
He expressed hope to the interim government and further said, ‘We are hopeful that the current government will root out extrajudicial murders. Also, we hope that no workers’ rights will be taken away in the new Bangladesh.’
