Speakers in a function today underscored the need for strengthening the comprehensive efforts of GO and NGO to mitigate the peoples’ sufferings caused by disaster.
“Due to geographical location the people of Rowmariupazila under Kurigram district face untimely flood caused by negative impacts of climate change.
In addition, the upazila experiences seasonal flood every year creating untold sufferings to the flood victims. With the recession of flood water, river erosion, another hazard is added to the fleet of the disaster. As a result, the victims are compelled to go to other places of the country being climate victims and lead sub human life there.
In this context, climate- resilient food supply chain can help the flood victims reduce their sufferings and losses significantly”, they also said.
They made the comments while they were addressing an inception meeting about a project entitled Building Climate resilient Food Systems in Bangladesh (BCFS) at the conference room of Rowmariupazila administration of Kurigram district this noon with UNO Nahid Hasan Khan in the chair.
At the beginning of the function Md. Tauhidur Rahman, area Manager-North, Sajida Foundation made a power point presentation about the project and its overall activities for the participants.
In the presentation, Tauhidur Rahman said the project funded by City Foundation would be implemented in the upazilatill October 2025 with an aim to develop a climate-resilient food supply chain which will increase food availability, improve community resilience and ensure food security for climate-vulnerable communities.
He also sought whole-hearted cooperation of all concerned to make the project in the upazila fruitful and successful.
UNO Nahid Hasan Khan in his presidential emphasized for joint and coordinated efforts of GO and NGO to achieve the goals of any targeted work and gave his commitment to provide all sorts of administrative support to run the project in the project command area peacefully.
Almost all upazila level officials, public representatives, local elite, NGO activists and journalists participated in the function.
