Speakers in a function here underscored the need for standing beside the climate-affected farmers’ families with positive attitude and creating much awareness among the family members about safe migration to help them go abroad maintaining proper channels.
“ Due to bad impacts of climate change in recent years, agri sector is being affected seriously as a result, the farmers of middle and lower classes are being economically loser . In this situation, the men particularly the youth of the affected families want to go abroad to change the economic condition of the families but in case of going abroad they are fully dependent on the brokers. After going abroad illegally through the brokers, they are victimized to cheating and human trafficking resulting they are to face more difficulties there. In this situation, there is no alternative to going abroad legally through maintaining proper channels to avoid various complexities at home and abroad”, they also said.
They came up with the comments while they were addressing a workshop on Exploring Links between Climate Change and Human Trafficking held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) here on Tuesday.
GanaUnnayan Kendra (GUK), a Gaibandha base reputed non-government development organization working across the country arranged the function under under the BPEMS(Bangladesh Program to end Modern Slavery) Augrojatra Climate Change Project supported by Win rock International and funded by U.S. Department of State.
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC-General) AKM Hedayetul Islam addressed the function as the chief guest and additional police super Shariful Islam spoke at the event as the special guest.
Coordinator of the GUK Aftab Hossain, Assistant Coordinator JoyaPrasad,Program Manager Munir Hossain, Project Manager ArfanMondal, and regional coordinator of Winrock International Mizanur Rahman addressed the function among others.
A number of district level govt. officials, social workers, NGO representatives including journalists attended the function.
