Remembrance of martyred intellectuals with humble respect in Rajshahi

Martyred Intellectuals Day has been celebrated in Rajshahi through various programs. The martyrs’ memorials of Rajshahi were filled with flowers since Tuesday morning.

Political leaders, government officials and the general public are paying homage to the martyred intellectuals by laying wreaths.

This morning, councilors on behalf of Awami League presidium member  City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton paid their respects by laying wreaths at the memorial at Bablaban Massacre in T-Groen area of ​​Rajshahi metropolis. Others then paid their respects with flowers at the memorial.

Earlier, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Md Humayun Kabir paid homage to the martyred intellectuals by laying a wreath at the Shaheed Memorial in Rajshahi Court premises at 9 am on Tuesday.  Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Jalil,  Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique and  Superintendent of Police ABM Masud Hossain were present.

Meanwhile, Martyr Intellectuals’ Day is also observed with due dignity at Rajshahi University. The national flag was hoisted at half-mast in administration, residential halls and other buildings at sunrise.

After the silent procession at 8:30 in the morning, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Golam Sabbir Sattar Tapu, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chowdhury. Zakaria and Professor. Senior officials of RU administration including Sultanul Islam, Registrar Abdus Salam, Proctor Liaquat Ali laid wreaths at the Shaheed Minar of the university. Later, the martyr observed a minute of silence paying homage to the memory of the intellectuals.

On the other hand, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has also observed Martyred Intellectuals Day with due dignity. In the early hours of the day, RUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Under the leadership of Rafiqul Islam Sheikh, tributes were paid at the graveyard of the martyrs of the great war of liberation.

Then a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs. Afterwards, the program of the first watch ends with prayers and lighting of candles. In addition, a special munajat was held at the Ruwet Central Jame Mosque after Zohar in memory of the martyred intellectuals.

A discussion meeting was organized on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day at Rajshahi Women’s College ground. Literary writer Selina Hossain spoke as the chief guest.

In the afternoon, a discussion meeting was held at the Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner’s Office on the occasion of Intellectuals’ Day. In the evening, various programs including discussion meetings and cultural programs were held in remembrance of Martyred Intellectuals Day at the initiative of various political, social and professional organizations.
