Over 36,000 people stranded due to flood like situation Bogura

Over 36,000 people have been stranded due to the steep slopes and heavy rains coming down from the upper reaches in Bogura.

The water level of the river Jamuna continues to rise near Sariakandi , Sonatola and Dhunot upazilas of the district.  At 3 pm on Tuesday, at Mathurapara point in Sariakandi, the water of Jamuna river was flowing above the danger level of 38 cm.

As the water level continues to rise, new areas of the Jamuna char areas like Kajla, Chaluabari, Karnibari, Bohail, Chandanbaisha, Kamalpur and Rouhadah have been flooded. Crop lands in different areas have been submerged.

Due to the inundation of flood waters in many houses, several families have taken shelter in the surrounding high ground and flood control dams with household goods and cattle.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer of Sariakandi Saiful Islam said 36,000 people from 9,000 families were trapped in the floods. 46 metric tons of rice has been distributed among the waterlogged people as relief.

Deputy Director of DAE Dulal Hossain said aman, seedbed, vegetables and masakalai have been submerged in the flood waters.

Executive engineer of Water Development Board Mahbub Rahman  said the water level in the Jamuna River rose by 13 cm in 24 hours from 3pm on Monday to 3pm on Tuesday and flowed above the danger level of 38cm at 3pm on Tuesday.
